Brief of diplomatic relations

 

Diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia were established on November 18, 1992. The Embassy of Georgia in Azerbaijan was opened on February 1995. The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Georgia was opened on March,1996.

 

Mr. Faig Guliyev, Ambassador of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Georgia (credential presented to the President of Georgia on 02 October, 2020).

 

Mr. Zurab Pataradze, Ambassador of Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Azerbaijan (credential presented to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on 29 August, 2018).

 

Consulate General of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Batumi started its activity in 2010.

 

Consul General of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Batumi is Mr. Parviz Ismailzadeh.

 

Consulate General of Georgia in Ganja started its activity in 2013. Consul General of Georgia in Ganja is Mr. Nikoloz Iashvili.

 

Bilateral contractual-legal basis

 

08 March 1996, the Treaty on Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Security between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Georgia;

 

04 March 2004, Joint Declaration between the Republic of Azerbaijan and Georgia;

Parliamentarian relations

 

Parliamentarian working groups between Azerbaijan and  Georgia was established in 2004.

 

Head of inter parliamentarian working group (consists of 21 parliamentarians) with Georgia from Azerbaijan is Mr. Aflatun Amashov Head of inter parliamentarian working group with Azerbaijan from Georgia is Mr.Zviad Dzidziguri.

 

Parliamentarian Group of Friendship (consists of 35 parliamentarians) between Azerbaijan-Georgia was established in Georgian parliament in March 2013 .

 

Economic relations

 

Azerbaijan is the main trade partnor of Georgia. Azerbaijan have invested more than 3 billion US dollars into Georgian economy up to now. Azerbaijan have pursued succesfull regional energy policy. Baku-Supsa, Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan, Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum oil and gas pipelines as well as Baku-Tbilisi-Kars rail road have given impetus to strenghening  bilateral relations.

 

SOCAR Georgia plays the major role of providing gas in Georgia.

 

Trade turnover between Azerbaijan and Georgia was 545 497,5  thousands US dollars.

Humanitarian cooperation

 

On the initiative and support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, secondary schools 73 named after M.F.Axundzade in Tbilisi,  school 7 in Marneuli, school 3 in Gardabani, school 2 in Dmanisi were  constructed completly. At the same time the new building of modern secondary schools in Garacalar village of Gardabani, Hasanxocali and Jafarli villages of Bolnisi and  in Kirovis village of Dmanisi were constructed by Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Also secondary schools in Alget  village of Marneuli, Nazarli village and kinder-garden in Gardabani district, as well as ‘Tea House’ in Marneuli, M.F.Akhundzade Azerbaijan Cultural Museum and house museum of public figure, politician and writer N.Narimanov were reconstructed by SOCAR Georgia.

 

Several newspapers are published in Azerbaijani language in Georgia such as  “Gürcüstan”, “Müəllim”, “Maarif”, “Təhsil”, “Aydın Yol”. Heydar Aliyev Azerbaijan Dramatic Theatre, M.F.Axundzada Azerbaijan Cultural Museum and House museum of Nariman Narimanov operate in Tbilisi.

 

The main contracts on humanitarian sphere between Azerbaijan and Georgia

 

03 February 1993, The Treaty on cultural, scientific and humanitarian cooperation  between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Georgia;

 

18 February 1997, The Treaty on cultural coopeation the between the Governments of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Georgia. This treaty entered into force on 08 May, 1997.

 

Compatriots

 

According to the census in 2014, Azerbaijani population living in Georgia is 233 024  people.

 

Compatriots mostly live in Kvemo-Kartli region including Qardabani, Marneuli, Bolnisi, Dmanisi districts and in Kaxet, Shida-Kartli regions as well as in Ajaria Autonomous Republic.
