Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Georgia Faig Guliyev met with Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili

On March 16, 2022, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Georgia Faig Guliyev met with Chairman of the Parliament of  Georgia  Shalva Papuashvili.

Welcoming the Ambassador, Mr. Papuashvili stressed the importance of developing a strategic partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan on a solid basis. He underlined the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation in this direction, including reciprocal contacts and mutual high-level visits with Azerbaijani counterparts.

Expressing gratitude for the kind words addressed to our country, Ambassador F.Guliyev stressed the attention paid by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev to the promotion of the strategic partnership with neighboring Georgia. He noted that all the steps taken by our state are a clear proof of this firm position.

The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, in his turn, noted that Georgia has always supported the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, emphasizing the importance of establishing conditions for peace and cooperation in the region.

In response, Ambassador F.Guliyev said that Azerbaijan also has consistently supported Georgia's territorial integrity, citing the recent statement of the country's Foreign Ministry on the issue. In this regard, he noted that thanks to the glorious Victory of Azerbaijan, new opportunities and promising prospects have been opened in the region. He noted that Azerbaijan-Georgia bilateral and Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey trilateral cooperation formats can contribute to the development of the region at this stage. He also stressed the importance of establishing an atmosphere of general peace and mutually beneficial cooperation in the South Caucasus, and praised the initiatives of the Georgian Government in this direction.

During the conversation, the sides underlined the importance of active cooperation at the parliamentary level of the two countries, including solidarity on international platforms and partnership in various specific areas.

The sides also exchanged views on other international agenda’s topical issues of mutual interest and noted with satisfaction that regarding them the parties demonstrate an approach based on common basic principles.

At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed confidence that fruitful contacts will continue in the future.
